Ox Worldwide has built out a global lifting engineering. We started 30 years ago, it’s been difficult, and we’ve learned lessons along the way. Many of the things we got right, came from key people who had run global teams before (and knew the mistakes they didn’t want to repeat). STEEL INDUSTRY DEFINITION
Steel is an iron-carbon alloy with different proportions, which can reach 2% carbon. However, most steels contain less than 0.5% carbon. They may also contain aggregates and natural impurities such as phosphorus and sulfur.
Steels are considered common when, in addition to iron and carbon, they have relatively low silicon and manganese contents.
Sulfur and phosphorus, which are always present in steel, are considered impurities. These elements do not change in principle the phases present nor the position of the lines of the diagrams in an important way, although their properties do. Sometimes, maximum and minimum limits are specified for these elements because they provide some technological advantage. When the steel contains other elements required by the specifications, they are called special steels.
The iron-carbon diagram determines the transformation curves when the cooling of the steels is carried out slowly. To take into account the rate of cooling in the structure, curves are used where the interaction between temperature, time and transformation can be analyzed. These curves are called TTT curves.
